A great pre (or post) workout smoothie

It can sometimes be hard trying to find the right fuel to consume before or after a workout - you want to make sure that you are nourishing your body (and not undoing the hard work you have done or are about to do), and you don't want anything too heavy that is going to sit in your stomach like a rock if you are about to exercise half an hour later.

The following smoothie recipe is one that I have created recently (and I should note that the ingredients are very interchangeable - you can definitely substitute the type of milk or fruit you want to use).

This also works as a great afternoon snack or a quick breakfast.

Banana and berry smoothie

You'll need:

1 banana
1 handful of frozen berries (I usually use raspberries, blackberries or blueberries)
1 cup of low fat milk
1 handful of ice
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla essence
Optional for extra sweetness: 1 tablespoon of maple syrup

1. Break up the banana and pop it in a blender

2. Add in the frozen berries, milk, ice and vanilla

3. Blend together for 30-60 seconds

4. Pour into a glass and enjoy!

  1. This is almost identical to my regular smoothie, but I add some protein powder as well.....yum!! The ice and frozen berries make it so thick!!
