One of the best Italian restaurants in Launceston

I assumed that after living in Launceston for 9 months or so, I had discovered all the best cafes and restaurants here. However, a couple of weeks ago, we decided to make a booking at a small Italian restaurant, Novaro's, in the centre of town, and it definitely makes it onto my list of the best restaurants in Launceston. This cozy restaurant is situated in an Edwardian building on Brisbane St, one of the main streets in town.

We arrived for a late booking on a Saturday night, and the room was filled to the brim. After settling into our cozy table tucked away in the corner of the room, we browsed the menus, before deciding on an entree to share - the Flinders Island abalone with white truffle oil, swiss brown mushrooms, potatoes and homemade pasta. For the mains, we both decided to go with their special for the night - the slow-cooked beef brisket with potato puree, roasted onions and a smoked jus.

The abalone pasta was incredibly delicious, particularly due to the flavours of the truffled oil and fresh, plump abalone. Thinking that it couldn't get much better than that, out came the beef brisket. The incredibly tender, melt-in-your mouth beef, paired with the smoky jus, creamy potato and caramelised onion was possibly one of the best slow-cooked meals I have ever had.

We couldn't turn down the dessert menu, and both chose the chocolate fondant with vanilla bean ice cream. Though it was rather rich, the gooey centre made it an excellent choice to end the meal.

The only thing that left me disappointed all evening was the fact that it took my 9 months to discover this amazing Italian restaurant. I think it's safe to say that my expectations of the Launceston food scene before moving here were nowhere near the reality of all the incredible restaurants that we keep stumbling upon the longer we live here. I'm definitely not complaining.
