Bayviews Restaurant and Lounge, Burnie

One of the restaurants that quite a few people had recommended that we try in Burnie was Bayviews Restaurant and Lounge, so a couple of weeks ago we made a booking for a Saturday night to check it out. To be honest, before moving to Burnie, one of the things I was a little apprehensive about was the restaurant scene. I really didn't think there was going to be all that much compared to Launceston, let alone Sydney. However, I have to say, Bayviews is definitely up there with one of the nicest beach-side restaurants I've tried.

Located right on Burnie Beach, on the second level of the surf club building, Bayviews overlooks the water, and is the perfect spot for a summer evening drink or meal.

We decided to start off with the entree tasting platter, which came with chicken and smoked paprika arancini, salmon gravlax, and calamari with romesco sauce. The seafood was extremely fresh and it is a great option if you want to test a few of the entrees without filling up too much.

For mains, we both had the crisp slow cooked lamb shoulder with butternut pumpkin gnocchi, mushrooms, shallots and a baby cress, walnut and fetta salad. The lamb was incredibly tender, flavoursome and the perfect amount of crispiness, without being too fatty.

For dessert, neither of us could pass up the snickers semifreddo with chocolate mousse, caramel sauce, almond crumble, peanut praline and dark chocolate. I have had a number of caramel/chocolate/ice cream desserts in my time (as these three items definitely make up my favourite sweet combination), and this was honestly one of the best desserts I've had. I would go back to Bayviews just to order this dessert if I could (now I'm getting ideas...).

I'm pretty sure this is going to be the place for celebrations this year, whether it be our anniversary, my birthday, Dave's birthday, (Moose's birthday?)...or just an excuse for a weekend meal out.
